Being a steak lover, I have scoured for steakhouses all over Singapore. Many websites have also ranked the various steakhouses in Singapore, of which I find that Wooloomooloo Steakhouse at Swissotel the Stamford has been underrated.  I believe that different individuals are attuned to a specific way that their beef is prepared – be it the cut, doneness, flavour or texture. Hence began my quest for the ultimate steakhouse that can prepare my beef just the way I like. And the fillet mignon at Wooloomooloo indubitably fits into my criteria. Hidden amidst the plush interior is superb steak that will entice me to return many times…

We made our orders and the complimentary bread served was definitely unique to Wooloomooloo. It was freshly baked with onions, butter, salt and very much flavourful on its own. (5/5)

For starters, we had the Steak Tartare ($32++). The handcut steak tartare was placed on top of a bed of capers, chives, shallots, amongst many others. This provided a crunchy texture to the mouthfuls of soft steak tartare. Sadly, the steak tartare somehow failed to deliver the flavours it was intended to bring out. (3.5/5)

For the main courses, we had the Fillet Mignon, centre-cut, 10-ounce ($62++) and the Ribeye, 12-ounce ($68++). The steaks are served with generous servings of 4 sauces – mushroom, au jus, peppercorn, red wine madeira. My favourite is undoubtedly the fillet mignon, and I like to have it without any sauce. Cooked medium-rare, the beef is juicy, moist and the aroma trapped underneath the seemingly deceiving exterior. It melts in your mouth and the taste subtly builds up with every bite. Sip a glass of red wine and the meal is perfect. (5/5)

In contrast, the ribeye has great flavours that go well with the sauces but loses to the fillet mignon in terms of texture and tenderness. This further emphasises how impeccably marinated the fillet mignon was. (3.75/5)

We topped up the main course with the Creamy Spinach ($12++), and did not regret our choice. Befitting of the name, the well-boiled spinach was complimented with a rich creamy sauce mixed with a hint of cheese flavour. Couldn’t bear to leave any trace of spinach behind. (5/5)
